  • Review: A couple of weeks ago, a co-worker visited town from Chicago, and we put him up at the Roosevelt Hotel on 45th Street and Park Avenue. The point of this story: his room featured a complimentary bottle of wine, which I promptly seized from him during lunch at the Sky Bar. And last night, I drank it. The 2006 Marraso El Caballo Antiguo is a solid Malbec, suitably dry and fruity. Vino Wine’s November 2007 Cellar Notes newsletter describes it this way: “[F]ull bodied with deep and forward berry and cherry fruit flavors, the wine has mellow tannins, good acid and hints of dark cocoa, vanilla, and tiny notes of tar.” This wine is inexpensive – under $15, according to Vino Wine, which awarded it a “Best of...” in that category. If co-workers came to visit more often, maybe my wine reserve would be in better shape.
