  • Review: purple color with aromas of blackberries, pine and kirsch. Medium to full-bodied, the wine had nice fruit flavors, but was tannic with a dry finish. Grade: B/B+.

I don’t recall ever having the Cuvée Alexandre Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon side by side to compare, but in this tasting, the Merlot had a richer texture, more luscious and deeper fruit flavors and more complexity than the Cabernet. Perhaps that is why Casa Lapostolle’s flagship wine Clos Apalta is predominately composed of the vineyard’s old vine Carmenere and Merlot. Finally, I will mention only in passing the biggest disappointment of our winery visit - the fact that we were not offered a sample of Clos Apalta. Nonetheless, we extend our warm gratitude to Andrea Leon for our winery tour and thank all the people at Casa Lapostolle for their warm hospitality. We hope you enjoy the slideshow of our visit.
  • Comments: The Marnier Lapostolle family, creator of Grand Marnier, the famed French Liqueur, founded Casa Lapostolle winery in 1994. Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle, Chairwoman of Casa Lapostolle, led the design and creation. She recruited two French enologists, world-renowned winemaker Michel Rolland and on-site winemaker Michel Friou. Together they oversee all aspects of the winery from vineyard management, harvesting, vinification and blending for all the wines in the portfolio.

The goal of Casa Lapostolle is to produce world-class wines. Strict adherence to traditional French winemaking techniques, combined with state-of-the-art facilities and the superb Chilean soil and climate, have led to highly praised wines of the greatest character.
